Thunderous is the best way to describe the Hawkbucker. The output isn’t overly hot, but dual Alnico 5 blade magnets large coils do deliver a lot of low end and power.
It’s perfect for incorporating the 4 conductor lead wire for series/split/parallel switching.

These pickups are everything I asked for, and more. I asked for a Thunderbird tone that I could fit into my RD artist without modification, and these pickups delivered. Plenty of growl, and midrange punch. Thanks!

A great sound in either split or full humbucker mode, combined with the awesome looks provided by those thick rails make the Hawkbucker a great addition any bass.
I use mine in the bridge position, and I find three main 'tonal' points:
1) In full humbucker mode, it is snappy enough, but also has enough "meat" to resemble to an MM-style pickup;
2) In coil-split mode, it has an almost 'Jaco-like' (provided the midrange is boosted) Jazz-Bass tone;
3) In either full or split mode, combining with another single-coil, the Hawkbucker provides a nice smooth tone good for almost any genre of music.
The only downside - custom quality comes with a custom price tag.
