Unless your guitar was routed for a P90, the indefinable sound of a Staple pickup was impossible to achieve. But leave it to Seymour to fabricate a humbucker-sized version of this special pickup. It’s the same smooth but tight tone now available to everyone. You can watch the making of a Phat Staple in the video below.
DC Resistance: 9.1k

I wanted to mimic the setup of an early 50s Les Paul Custom, with a P-90 in the bridge and staple pickup in the neck, in a guitar routed for normal humbuckers. So I bought a Seymour Duncan Phat Cat for the bridge and one of these Phat Staples from the Custom Shop. Couldn’t be more pleased. The staple pickup sounds wonderful. More punch and depth than my stock humbuckers, tons of clarity and no noise. Takes overdrives wonderfully and sounds big and clear clean. The two pickups together as well mimicking that early 50s setup sons great and are really versatile.
The only thing to note: they may not drop in to a solid body humbucker route. The square dimensions fit, but the pocket depth on my 2012 Gibson Les Paul was too shallow. It’s an easy mod to make it fit, but it doesn’t require some light woodworking.

Didn't want to mess up my '05 custom shop model. Found a phat cat p90 in black/gold for the bridge position, and ordered the phat staple in black/gold for the neck position. Swap out the humbuckers, and I'm back in the 50's. No damage, and humbuckers are in the case, just in case. They can stay there.
Phat tone, sweetens right up.
