Product Description

We are sold out of the limited edition Joe Bonamassa Amos pickups

This page is for reference only.

"Truth be told, I think it's the best of the three replica pickup sets I've collaborated on with Duncan."

-Joe Bonamassa

Joe Bonamassa’s 1958 Flying V was special even before being purchased by the famous bluesman – as one of just 98 Flying V’s produced by Gibson in the fifties, it has been featured in numerous books and magazines, and even had a cameo in the infamous mockumentary “This is Spinal Tap”. Remarkably, tracing the serial number led back to the original dealer where it was sold – with a photo of storeowner Amos Arthur holding the guitar in his shop as proof. So of course we were thrilled to work with Joe again to reproduce the unique original pickups from this incredible piece of guitar history.

The sound of the Amos Flying V is uniquely robust compared to other PAF loaded guitars. Careful examination of the original pickups revealed something unique – unusually strong magnetism, which could only be replicated by using Alnico 6 magnets. Although Alnico 6 might seem like an odd choice for a PAF replica, the result is surprisingly warm, clear and powerful – and matches the tone of the originals.

We’re also offering a reproduction cover option – painstakingly hand crafted in the custom shop to replicate the wear pattern of the original Amos pickups. Of course, if gold’s not your thing, we also offer nickel and uncovered options, like black and zebra.

Each set is built using period-correct butyrate bobbins, maple spacers, and wound on the same historic Leesona winding machine originally used by Gibson in the fifties and sixties, and will be hand-signed by Seymour W. Duncan and Joe Bonamassa.

DC Resistance: 7.5k neck, 8.3k bridge

  1. Joe's latest set 5 Star Review

Posted by on 2nd Apr 2018

I like others have put these in my Epiphone Amos V. I own two sets like the other magic pickups from MJ. The other sets went into my 3 Les Pauls an R7,R8,and a R9. These are the sounds I have been looking for for years. I'm an old guy been playing for over 50 years and have owned numerous guitars with original PAFs. Old PAF's vary greatly, some are great some are not. All 3 sets of the Joe Bonamassa pickups are very constant in their tone and sound.I have an original PAF and have put it in one of my Les Pauls but took it out because the tone was not happening. I have always sought out Duncan's and their custom shop, they are the best.

  2. Amos 5 Star Review

I'm thoroughly impressed with these pickups. I got them for my Epiphone Bonamassa Amos V, which, mind you, had stock pickups that weren't at all awful. The difference, however, is a marked improvement overall. The Duncans are crystal clear and articulate at all volumes. Dialed back, they get a terrific, warm yet crisp blues/jazz tone, and cranked, they just snarl. It's surprising how much punch they have, yet retain clarity. High held notes just soar with beautiful harmonic detail. Really nice! Significant improvement over stock, and well worth it!

  3. JB & Seymour Duncan do it AGAIN! 5 Star Review

I put these in a Gibson Custom Shop V - a '58 Historic Reissue. Guitar came with Custombuckers and sounded 'good'. In pursuit of that elusive ideal tone everyone has in their head, I replaced the wiring harness with a Martin Six String Customs setup and it sounded better and more clear, but now quite there yet... Then I ordered up these, installed them and was blown away! So touch sensitive and crystalline with that wonderful Flying V midrange twang really shining now! The cleans are incredibly smooth, but Ch 4 on my Engl Powerball 2 is pure rock bliss now. They have a little more low end than the Custombuckers, but the rich midrange and clarity are amazing. GREAT pickups!!

  4. Great sounding pickups 5 Star Review

Posted by on 18th Mar 2018

These were the exact upgrade my Epiphone Amos Flying V needed. The original bridge pickup was really good the original neck pickup was muddy. These pickups are clean and articulate, yet have some great attitude when you increase your pick attack. These pickups would be a great upgrade to any guitar sound that you are currently not happy with. I play rockabilly, the blues, classic and sounthern rock, and some country and with my Tube Amp I am able to get all those different tones. Great pickups - buy them already!!

  5. They sound amazing! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 18th Mar 2018

I put these into my Epiphone JB Amos guitar. They sound incredible clean and with any overdrive. I ramped up my tweed for natural breakup and it really howls. They have a very distinct sound in each position.

The Epiphone pickups that come with the Amos are great but you can hear the difference with this set of Duncans. They quality is outstanding.

  6. Best PAF's Ever!! 5 Star Review

This is the 3rd set of this series for Joe Bonamassa and Seymour Duncan and I agree with Joe that these are the best of the 3! I own all 3 of them and love them all, but these are a bit more edgy and they really sound amazing!! I bought 2 sets!!
