  1. Perfection in quality and tone as requested! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 25th Nov 2017

From the values right down to the bobbin color, Seymour, MJ, and the custom shop exceeded all expectations and made a pickup better than I ever could have imagined. Great tone, great quality, great service. Seymour Duncan all the way!

  2. Wise Investment 5 Star Review

Posted by on 12th Aug 2017

If you're making up your mind about whether or not it would be worth the expense to get customs, it definitely is. I had very specific qualities I wanted out of the tone for my custom order and they nailed it!

  3. More shine for my Gold Top 5 Star Review

Posted by on 7th Aug 2017

Initially I tried to order the Bonamassa set, but found out they were sold out. When I explained what I was after....a bit more high end and sheen out of my aged 57 Gold Top reissue, the team at the custom shop made a detailed recommendation. I received and installed the pups and I am delighted. The guitar has come alive.....great note to note separation, shimmering clean tones without a hint of harshness, and when overdriven the guitar sits Bach and roars. My thanks to the team in the Custom Shop......you have gone way beyond my expectations.

  4. Exactly what I was after 5 Star Review

Posted by on 20th Jul 2017

I had read up on the Angus Young pickup work that SD was doing and knew that pickup wasn't exactly what people thought it was based off of popular gear videos etc (not to mention the Gibson artist P/U that to me never sounded like Angus at all). So the "Franknbucker" was ordered to the spec of the SD High Voltage humbucker and replaced a 57 Classic (i think) in my 57 anniversary Goldtop. An immediate improvement in tone in my opinion and just the perfect set of mids to cut thru the mix in my loud two-guitar rock band The Creeping Cruds. The other guy plays a Gretsch with the standard Filtertron setup so we are definitely in the area of classic ACCADACCA tones that I've been shooting for. Plus it's just cool to have my very own humbucker spec with a bitchin' Frankenstein face etched on it!

  5. Surfbucker 4 Star Review

Posted by on 8th Jun 2017

My idea was to get a bridge humbucker that would have the tone of the neck pickup from the antiquity II surfer set with a little more punch. It was a big ask given a bridge pickup will never truly have the neck pickup tone because of position. Also making a humbucker sound like a single coil can be challenging. The seymour duncan team turned around the custom pickup request quickly. They nailed the specifics for my guitar (a Parker Fly Mojo). The pickup fit perfectly. Service was 5 stars. The end result was 4 stars. After several months playing it, It's a bit too compressed and not as articulate as I would have hoped. I'm considering sending it back for a rewind now that I have a better idea of how it sounds in the guitar.

  6. Custom Parallel Axis Trembucker - A5 - Gibson Les Paul Axcess 5 Star Review

Posted by on 2nd Jun 2017

That's right folks; we did a Parallel Axis Les Paul Axcess! I was looking for a little more of everything (B/M/T), replacing a Full Shred Trembucker, and the custom shop nailed it in the form of an overwound Parallel Axis Original!
Don't get me wrong the Full Shred Trembucker was awesome; I just wanted a little more power and enhanced cleans.

    I could not be happier!

  7. I didn't expect this... 5 Star Review

Posted by on 19th May 2017

This is the second time I've ordered from the custom shop folks. The first time I got what I asked for, and it was very cool, but I didn't quite have the right idea in my head. This time I asked them to use the sound description from my first order and put it in a different form factor. I got a beautiful, dynamic and SWEET/RICH sounding clean humbucker (I say clean in the sense that it doesn't hide ANY mistakes and lets all the notes ring through) that will absolutely rip your face off if you ask it to. I could type paragraphs of descriptive words but they probably wouldn't convey just how happy I am. Thank you to all the custom shop folks, the Kayjo MKII is spectacular!

  8. Amazing humbucker 5 Star Review

Posted by on 15th May 2017

I got a low output, non potted, alnico 2 humbucker. Sounds and looks amazing. Fit my Les Paul perfectly. MJ nailed what I was looking for down to every detail.

  9. Dream tone come true 5 Star Review

Posted by on 30th Apr 2017

MJ really brought my tone to life, everything I requested in my customization to the pickup was well what I expected. I actually wanna make a duplicate of a custom bridge pickup I ordered some time ago, because it's just that good. Definitely will order some more custom goodies in the near future! Thanks Duncan family, I will forever treasure your products

  10. Best neck pickup, 78/jazz hybrid!! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 17th Apr 2017

It took me a while to get the pickup into the guitar, but I am extremely happy with my 78/jazz hybrid neck pickup! I'm using it with a Whole Lotta Humbucker bridge pickup, and they work extremely well together! The neck pickup is 8.53k, which many may consider pretty hot. But there's no muddieness, it's a bit creamy with a bunch of punch! Using an Alnico2 magnet was a great choice, since the in between position sounds great and I think has become something much more useable. The pickup also cleans up very well, with a great treble bite. All in all I am extremely happy! I would definitely order the same pickup again, though with all the options available it could be fun to try a different slug coil to pair with the 78 screw coil, just for the heck of it! Oh, the guitar the pickups went in is a 2001 Les Paul Custom 57 RI in a transparent Cherry finish...So I'm glad to have amazing pickups in a very beautiful guitar now! I would recommend anyone looking for something special to try out the Build Your Own option! Why not make your guitar one of a kind! A very big thank you to MJ for an amazing pickup! I've been getting my guitars from Vic Dapra, owner of Guitar Gallery and author of the Burst Believers books, and for him to be impressed with the look and tone of the guitar I think speaks highly of the work the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop provides!

  11. ClydeBucker 5 Star Review

Posted by on 14th Jan 2017

I have had a little over a month to play with my custom built hybrid humbucker and I have to say I am thoroughly impressed and happy with what the great people at the Seymour Duncan custom shop have put together for me. They put in every detail I asked for and helped decide on things like the magnet and perfect dc resistance for what I was looking for. I have been using the ClydeBucker in a wide range of tuning applications from standard to drop G# and have come to find it is extremely versatile. They found the perfect midrange snap that I love for the lower tunings and in the more standard tunings it cuts through the mix beautifully while having a thunderous punch through the rhythm sections. The cleans are sparkling and the pickups sensitivity it amazingly responsive. I will be ordering a set for every guitar I have including my 7s. Thank you to everyone at Seymour Duncan for helping me down the seemingly endless and constant changing road of tone. I truly believe this is hands down the best pickup I have ever played and owned.

  12. Custom Bridge Position Les Paul Humbucker 5 Star Review

Posted by on 21st Nov 2016

The custom pickup provided everything I wanted from it. I thought what I had asked for was a tall order but MJ worked her magic and produced my vision completely. They say that it you can dream it they can build it. I'm now looking at a custom neck pickup to go with my custom bridge pickup. Having a custom made pickup is an amazing experience. I can scratch that off my Bucket List.

Thank you, thank you, thank you,

    Sean Moore

  13. MJ and crew are the best! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 29th Jun 2016

Got a call in to the CS and spoke with MJ about what I was after and she said, 'Sure! No problem. Order with me or on the site and we'll get started.' 4-6wks later, I got an awesomely packed box with a couple great pickups. Can't wait for them to go in my new axe!

  14. Dead on. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 26th Jun 2016

Knowing far less about how to describe or wind pickups, I just played dumb and threw it at MJ to mix parts I like about three different pickups. I wanted a tweaked Nazgul with the articulation of a Black Winter and the low end growl of a JB. I got EXACTLY that, absolutely love it and will more than likely end up ordering more sooner than later.
Black metal cover matched my guitar's finish perfectly. Very happy with this.
Also, naming your pickup is great. After having handled probably over a 100 SD pickups in my time, seeing the familiar SD sticker on the back with the name I gave it gives a bit of extra awesome to the ordeal.

  15. Not what I expected... in a fantastic way. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 17th Apr 2016

I'll try to keep this brief. I've always been looking for a pickup that could do many things, not loosing its mind in the process as I have a bit of stylistic ADD. If memory serves me, MJ wound my pickup (looks like the slug/el diablo with A2 magnets). I asked for something that would, essentially, convey what was played in the most articulate way possible. What I got was a beautifully sweet/pleasant sounding pickup with great attack, just the right amount of mids and a clear top end that (despite my very bright amp) is not harsh. It's the most solid sounding A2 pickup I've ever laid ears on. If you're patient and know what you want, you won't be disappointed.

  16. JB/Black Winter Hybrid Trembucker. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 20th Feb 2016

Got some stellar tones off of my Seymour Duncan Custom shop pickup. They really nailed the tone I described. Articulate like the Blackwinter in the highs and mids but keeping the warmth and the clean channel friendliness of the JB as well as having plenty of attack and punch in the right lows. It was standard black with double Allen screws, so next time I'll order a little fancier cover, but the tone is perfect! Thanks guys.

  17. Couldn' have asked for better! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 6th Dec 2015

Everything turned out EXACTLY as I'd imagined! MJ did an amazing job turning my dream into a reality! The look, the tone, everything about it just came out perfect! Now, I'll be saving for a neck pickup!

  18. hot PAF 5 Star Review

Posted by on 4th Nov 2015

I asked for a hot PAF with a really tight low end and warm top end. It was for a
guitar I had tried a number of pickups in. They knocked this one out of the park! Absolutely amazed at how they could take my notes and come up with exactly what I was after. It has breathed new life in to the guitar!

  19. Just what I was looking for 5 Star Review

Posted by on 30th Oct 2015

I was skeptical about a custom pickup but it turned out pretty close to what I wanted it to sound like. Very punchy and lots of highs without having a battery. Definitely better than just buying one of the shelf. I have been using SD pickups since the 90s and like all versions but this one is specific to me. Love the custom color!

  20. very good! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 16th Oct 2015

This pickup is silky and warm distortion.
    Very nice!!!!!
